Can art educators thrive with technology or will it contribute to killing creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson is one of my favorite ted talk educators! He discusses issues in education and believes in the education revolution involving STEAM. This video is a great example of being creative with technology.

One main point Ken states, "the ambitious and creative use of technology where the kids also teach us." I believe this is part of the new revolution of technology in classrooms, especially the art classroom. Do you agree with his statement? Is it possible that this is the new revolution? Can we, as art educators, successfully design a curriculum to insure technology will always deem a positive influence in the students creativity, or can it possibly kill their creativity?

This next video is a bit lengthy, but well worth the view! Ken talks about the killing of creativity in schools and the signs to look for if your students are losing creativity.

Reflect on the part of the video when Ken talks about the left side of the body and left hemisphere of the brain. Do you believe education has excelled to educating both the left and right hemisphere or do you think we're still struggling to maintain the right side? Why? Do you think technology correlates with the idea of possibly contributing to killing creativity?

I believe STEAM has come a long way to fit permanently in education. My thoughts on this matter is, will creativity diminish because of technology? Will there be a lack of original ideas because of the use of technology? Is this even possible?

After viewing both videos, do you think it's possible for technology to contribute to killing creativity or do you think it will allow students to flourish in ways the education world may have never thought possible? What are your thoughts on unique ideas versus students getting inspiration from technology?

Mind mapping is a great way to organize thoughts and ideas! It’s fun for students and teachers to decide what’s important about a subject and what can possibly be eliminated. As a quick refresher, a mind map is a visual representation of hierarchical information that includes a central idea surrounded by connected branches of associated topics. It can be formal or informal, messy or organized. Here’s my example of the important facts from this video!

Thank you for viewing! I look forward to your thoughts and feedback!
